Challenge
The long, large-diameter shell had to be free of runout when rotating, so all parts had to be joined on a common axis.
Solution
We rolled the shell in sections and welded them. We measured and fitted the riding rings and girth gear to the axis, then pre-assembled the drum with its drive group in the workshop before dispatch.
